About This Role
Alright, let's talk about this driving job in Grand Rapids, MI. It's not just about getting from point A to point B. You're the main point of contact for our customers, and you've got to keep a big piece of equipment running right. If you take pride in doing a route thoroughly and safely, day in and day out, I want to hear from you.
What You'll Be Doing
You'll run a commercial collection truck on a designated route. That means servicing each customer stop, operating the truck's controls to lift and compact waste, and making sure everything gets to the disposal site.
- Start and end every shift with a full vehicle inspection. You're checking tires, fluids, safety gear; the whole works; and filling out the vehicle condition report so any issues get fixed fast.
- Your route sheet or dispatcher tells you where to go. You follow it, service each spot professionally, and keep an eye out for any unacceptable materials in the waste stream.
- Interactions with customers need to be courteous. Every single one. You might also need to tag containers that aren't up to standard.
- If there's a spill, you clean it up safely. After each dump run, you clear any packed in waste off the blade and body to keep the truck ready.
- Paperwork is part of it: finishing your route sheets and those daily vehicle reports.
- Safety isn't just a policy here; it's the job. You'll follow all protocols and actively participate in our safety program (we call it ReSOP).
The Kind of Person We Need
This work requires consistency and ownership. We need someone reliable who looks out for their equipment and treats people right.
- A current Class B Commercial Driver’s License (or higher) with an air brakes endorsement is mandatory. No exceptions.
- You manage your time well so your route gets done efficiently without cutting corners on safety.
- Honesty and trustworthiness are non negotiable. So is following company rules and promoting safe practices; no unnecessary risks.
- Good follow through is key. You stick to the schedule and handle problems as they come up without letting things slide.
- A professional attitude matters. You're cooperative with dispatchers, coworkers, and customers because you're representing all of us out there.
