About This Role
Alright, let's talk about this Vascular Sonographer opening at Methodist in Fort Worth, TX. I've been placing people here for years, and they run a tight ship. This isn't just another tech job; you're in the mix on some serious cases. The team needs someone who gets it, who can keep up and think on their feet.
The Work
You'll be right there in the cath lab, assisting physicians with invasive cardiovascular procedures. It's hands on from start to finish.
- Your day starts with prepping the lab and the patient. That means setting up for the procedure, maintaining sterile technique, shaving and prepping the site, and marking arterial pulses.
- During procedures, you'll step into different roles. Sometimes you're the monitor tech, interpreting dysrhythmias and EKGs, operating the physiologic recorder, and reading pressures and wave forms.
- Other times you'll scrub in alongside the physician to assist directly or operate imaging equipment under their direction.
- You might also circulate for some diagnostic procedures, keeping an eye on the patient's status, handing supplies to the scrub tech, and helping with imaging equipment.
- Afterward, you're responsible for post procedure care. You'll safely remove arterial or venous sheaths, maintain hemostasis, and monitor the patient.
- Then it's about wrapping things up: transporting patients to and from the department and cleaning and restocking the lab.
- A big part of keeping things running is knowing your stuff inside and out. You need a solid theoretical knowledge of the procedures and an understanding of the medications and dosages used.
- You'll also help manage inventory by ordering supplies for the cath lab and troubleshooting any equipment problems that pop up.
- And because they're a teaching hospital, you'll pitch in with orienting new staff members and students.
What You Need to Bring
The requirements are specific; they need someone who can hit the ground running. Here’s exactly what they’re asking for:
- An Associate or Bachelor’s degree with a science emphasis. They will also consider commensurate healthcare experience if you don't have the degree.
- A current Advanced Cardio Life Support (ACLS) certification from the American Heart Association is mandatory.
- For your credentials: you need to be RCIS certified within six months of your hire date. If you aren't RCIS certified yet, then having your ARRT registration plus a Texas RT(R) license is required instead.
The Schedule & The Place
The shift is Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM. You're based at Methodist Dallas Medical Center. Let me tell you about this hospital; it's not your average facility. It's a 595 bed acute care teaching hospital and Level I Trauma Center. They have a Comprehensive Stroke Center, a top notch breast center, major transplant programs… it's a place where complex medicine happens every day. They've won awards for being a great place to work too: Magnet designation, spots on "Best Places to Work" lists… it shows they try to do right by their staff. They value having a team that reflects their community.
