This is a senior technical role on the Information Technology team within American Airlines' Information Technology Division. You'll work with a highly skilled and experienced group providing technical application design and leadership services. It's a job where your expertise directly shapes how things get built and maintained.

What you'll do

• Oversee and contribute to the technical approach of application design
• Collaborate with developers to guide the architecture approach for Functional and Technical Design; you'll review, revise, and approve those design documents
• Create documents that support technical application architecture, vision, strategy, standards, policies, and presentations
• Bring technical input and responses to meetings and discussions to support the best application architecture
• Escalate technical issues when needed to keep projects on track and minimize risk
• Create, maintain, and communicate application architecture standards and procedures for design, development, and related activities
• Review Business Requirements documents and offer alternative best practice solutions before design starts
• Review source code changes and unit test cases when the project involves high risk
• Provide technical assistance and feedback related to the M&E application and its architecture
• Consult and advise on related application architecture and infrastructure services and technologies
• Apply appropriate technology to reduce costs or improve productivity
• Keep an effective approach on problem solving, multi tasking, coordinating, and scheduling to ensure visibility and predictability
• Influence and empower team members for growth and independence
• Consistently show a positive, professional, leadership attitude when working with others

What you'll need

Minimum qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Technology, Information Systems (CIS/MIS), Engineering, or a related technical discipline (or equivalent experience/training)
• 8 years of development experience in COBOL and IMS DB/DC
• 5 years of architectural and design experience

Preferred qualifications

• Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Technology, Information Systems (CIS/MIS), Engineering, or a related technical discipline (or equivalent experience/training)
• 3 years of technical or team leadership experience
• Airline industry experience

Skills, licenses, and certifications

• Proven ability to build strong, sustainable relationships with internal and external stakeholders (including engineering, platform, AI, and operational partners)
• Hands on experience architecting and delivering AI enabled and cloud native systems across hybrid computing environments, with proven capability in establishing conceptual strategy and technical direction
• Proficient in Agile, Spec Driven Development (SDD), and modern AI augmented SDLC methodologies
• Proficient in application, data, integration, and AI architecture, including agentic workflow design, model integration, and API first patterns
• Deep knowledge of event driven architecture, cloud integration, and modernization from legacy IBM MQ/IIB/SOA to scalable, distributed platforms
• Significant experience in requirements analysis and specification development, with strong understanding of AI assisted development workflows, testing methodologies, and quality gates
• Experience leading technical architecture across complex, mission critical operational domains, with emphasis on resiliency, observability, and AI enabled automation
• Ability to lead and support modernization, change, and continuous improvement in a fast paced, AI driven engineering environment
• Ability to manage large architecture workloads across multiple programs, AI workflows, technical initiatives, and ad hoc requests while maintaining high responsiveness
• Strong understanding of event driven architecture, cloud integration, and modernization patterns
