Ryder System

Sales Representative

Ryder System·Fort Worth, TX

About This Role

Alright, let's talk about this job. It's not a cold calling sales gig; you're on the inside, building the network that makes everything move. Your whole focus is finding and managing the trucking companies and carriers that get our customers' freight from A to B.

What you'll be doing

You're the central point for carrier operations. That means handling loads from start to finish: accepting tenders, creating loads in the system, setting appointments, and dispatching drivers. You'll track every shipment, solve problems when they pop up, and keep both the carrier and our internal team updated.

A big part of your day is planning. You'll manage the daily schedule to make sure we have enough trucks lined up to cover every load, hitting all our customer deadlines.

The real long term work is relationship building. You'll identify and develop partnerships with transportation providers. The goal is to build a deep, reliable carrier network that can handle any request a customer throws at us; full truckload, less than truckload (LTL), you name it. You'll work directly with Account Executives and Shipment Management Associates to make that happen.

  • Update load statuses in our Transportation Management System (TMS) promptly.
  • Schedule and dispatch while making sure everything complies with Federal, State, and Local regulations.
  • Be available 24/7/365 for your responsibilities; this role requires that level of commitment.
  • Look for ways to improve how we do things across the business.

What you need to bring

A high school diploma or GED is required. A Bachelor's degree in Transportation Management, Logistics, Business Administration or a related field is preferred.

You need at least three years of relevant business experience. More importantly, you need specific knowledge:

  • A working knowledge of the Transportation Industry; carrier modes, services, basic Supply Chain design and functionality is required at an advanced level.
  • You have to know Ryder's policies and procedures (RIL) at an advanced level.
  • A clear understanding of our SMS legacy system is needed at an intermediate level.
  • Understanding your assigned customer; their product and distribution requirements; is also required at an intermediate level.
  • Your PC skills should be solid in MS Access, Excel, and Word.

The kind of person who does well here

You're self driven and organized because you'll be juggling multiple tasks all day. Excellent time management isn't just a nice to have; it's how you survive. You've got to be detailed and have great follow up habits.

Negotiation skills are key. So are problem solving skills. You build professional relationships easily at all levels; with peers, work groups, customers, supervisors. You can work on your own initiative but you're also a solid team member when it's time to collaborate.

You represent Ryder professionally to everyone outside the company. That means strong verbal and written communication skills are non negotiable. A competitive nature helps; we have a winning culture here and we want people who contribute to that drive.
