About This Role
Alright, let's talk about this PACU RN spot at Medical City Dallas in Fort Worth, TX. I've been placing nurses here for years, and the team they're building is sharp. They're not just moving patients through; they're using some genuinely impressive tech to change how recovery happens. Think SPOT for catching sepsis early and programs that actually reduce opioid reliance after surgery. It's a place where what you do directly impacts those better outcomes.
The Work
You're the first line of defense after surgery. Your focus is on immediate post op care: managing airways, watching neurological and cardiac status like a hawk, and being ready to respond if anything shifts. You'll handle initial wound care at the surgical site and make sure the patient is stable as they wake up. It's all about collaboration with the surgical and anesthesia teams to ensure a seamless transition.
This isn't a solo gig. You're part of an interdisciplinary team with providers, therapists, and more. You'll apply the nursing process, use your critical thinking, and lead in delivering safe care. Assessing patient condition, monitoring throughout your shift, and thorough documentation are all part of it. So is educating patients and their families about their condition and next steps.
- Manage airway support and monitor neurological/cardiac status.
- Respond to post operative complications or side effects.
- Provide initial care to surgical sites.
- Collaborate closely with surgical and anesthesia teams.
- Assess patients, monitor changes, and document care thoroughly.
- Educate patients and their families on medical conditions and follow up care.
The Schedule & Support
This is a full time days position. You'll have self scheduling posted four weeks out so you can plan your life. There's an on call component for select non business hours; we can nail down those specifics when we talk.
The leadership here gets it; they're visible and supportive. They've built a culture where nurses are encouraged to ask questions, speak up with input on patient care, and seek help when needed. Charge nurses and unit leaders round regularly to listen to your suggestions. You won't be adrift; staffing support comes from CNAs, Patient Care Techs, Charge Nurses, plus an internal HCA float pool of RNs ready to step in if it gets hectic.
What You Need To Bring
You need an Associate Degree in Nursing; a BSN is preferred but not a deal breaker if you've got the experience. Speaking of which, you must have at least two years of RN experience under your belt.
The certs are non negotiable but you've got some time: Basic Cardiac Life Support (or BCLS Instructor) has to be sorted within your first 30 days. Then you'll need to obtain both Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Life Support within your first year on the job.
The Offer
The pay range will be discussed based on your experience; let's connect for that detail. The benefits package is comprehensive; HCA does this well across their system.
- Medical, prescription drug, dental, vision, behavioral health, and telemedicine coverage.
