NICU RN

Medical City Dallas·Fort Worth, TX

About This Role

Alright, let's talk about this PRN Respiratory Therapist role in the NICU and Pediatrics at Medical City Dallas. It's a big hospital with a big reputation, and they need someone who knows their stuff. This isn't an entry level gig; you're coming in to handle complex cases from day one.

The Work

You'll be the go to respiratory expert for our smallest and most vulnerable patients. That means you're assessing kids and babies, listening to those lungs, figuring out exactly what they need, and then making it happen.

  • Your day involves everything from oxygen support and aerosol meds to full airway clearance protocols.
  • Managing ventilators is a core part of the job; setting them up, adjusting settings, monitoring responses. You need to be sharp because things can change fast.
  • You'll assist with placing artificial airways and respond to emergencies, including helping stabilize newborns during deliveries.
  • A big piece is being a resource. You're educating families on what's happening with their child's care and partnering closely with the physicians and nurses on the unit.
  • And of course, you're responsible for your equipment; making sure it's set up right, maintained, cleaned properly, and ready to go. Transporting a ventilated patient safely is all on you.

What You Need to Bring

They're specific about credentials here. No wiggle room.

  • You must have graduated from a respiratory care program accredited by the NBRC.
  • A current Texas Medical Board license as a Respiratory Care Practitioner is non negotiable.
  • Your credential needs to be either CRT or RRT from the NBRC when you start.
  • For experience: at least one full year in general Respiratory Care, plus documented training specifically in NICU or Pediatric care. They need to see that on your resume.
  • Current BLS provider card from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross is required upfront.
  • You'll need to get your PALS certification within your first 30 days on the job.
  • NRP certification is also required, but you have 90 days to complete it after hire.
  • ACLS is listed as preferred; it's not a deal breaker starting out but it's definitely encouraged at this facility.

The Offer & The Place

This is a PRN position at Medical City Dallas in Fort Worth, TX. They've built a serious benefits package they call a "total rewards" deal. It's extensive, so here are some of the highlights that stood out to me:

  • The medical plan covers a lot of common services with no cost or a low copay. It includes prescriptions, behavioral health, free telemedicine visits, and even free AirMed medical transportation.
  • You can add on dental, vision, life insurance; the whole suite. There are also extra plans for accident or critical illness coverage if you want them.
  • A 401(k) plan where they'll match 100% of what you put in, between 3% and 9% of your pay. The exact match percentage depends on how long you've been there.
  • They help with family building through Progyny fertility benefits and adoption assistance. There’s also referral help for finding childcare or pet care.
  • Education assistance for tuition or certifications, plus student loan support options.
  • A Time Away From Work Program that bundles paid time off (PTO), paid family leave, and disability coverage.

A quick note on eligibility: Some benefits can vary based on your location and employment status (like that Employee Health Assistance Fund). It’s always good to confirm specifics during the hiring process. Medical City Dallas itself is massive; over 895 beds; and acts as a tertiary referral center. They’ve got more than 1, 500 physicians on staff, many who are leaders in their fields. Patients come here from across the country. It’s a place where you’re expected to perform at a high level. If this sounds like the kind of environment where you’d thrive, and your credentials line up, they want you to apply.
