Security Officer

Johnson ControlsยทFort Wayne, IN

About This Role

Alright, let's talk about this job. It's not a security guard position; it's for the technician who installs and fixes the security systems that guards use. If you're the person who gets called when the card reader stops working or the camera feed goes down, this is your role.

What you'll do

You'll handle service calls and get new systems up and running. Your day involves fire alarms, access control systems, CCTV cameras, intrusion alarms, and intercoms.

  • Supervise and inspect equipment installations to make sure they meet specs.
  • Handle field coordination, system programming, final commissioning, and testing with the Authority Having Jurisdiction.
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues and field wiring problems to figure out what's wrong.
  • Give customers clear recommendations on the most efficient way to fix their system.
  • Manage your assigned service calls and keep an eye on the labor hours.
  • A big part of this is customer satisfaction. You're their main point of contact, so clear communication is everything.
  • You'll write up daily activity reports.

The practical stuff

This isn't a desk job. You've got to be ready for physical work and some tricky spots.

  • You're lifting and carrying equipment over 40 pounds.
  • The job involves climbing ladders and scaffolding up to 40 feet high.
  • Sometimes you're working in tight spaces like ducts, crawl spaces, or above ceilings.
  • Safety is non negotiable. You must follow all OSHA and company safety policies.
  • There's some admin too: completing mileage and monthly vehicle reports on time.

What you need to bring

We need someone who can work independently but also knows how to talk to people. Here are the specifics we're looking for:

  • A solid 2 to 5 years of hands on experience installing and servicing fire alarm, access control, CCTV, intrusion, and intercom systems.
  • A working knowledge of electricity and electronics is a must. Show us you can troubleshoot a problem and perform the repair.
  • A high school diploma, trade school certificate, military training, or a two year associate degree in a technical field related to electronics or computers.
  • You need to be comfortable with personal computers (Windows OS) and Microsoft Office software.
  • A basic understanding of IT network systems will help a lot here.
  • The ability to use hand tools, power tools, and test gear like multi meters or oscilloscopes is required.
  • Your reading comprehension has to be strong. You'll be deciphering complex building plans, electrical diagrams, project specs, schedules, and technical manuals all the time.

Nice to haves

The ideal candidate has security system experience with platforms like P2000 or C Cure 9000. But if you have solid experience with any major access control system software we want to hear from you too.
