Quality Technician

Phoenix Industrial·Fort Wayne, IN

About This Role

What You’ll Actually Do as a Quality Technician

You’ll report to the site Quality Manager or Quality Field Operations Manager, with dotted line connection to the Sr. Manager of Quality Control. Your job is to conduct and document inspections exactly as the approved Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) spell out. That means every report you write has to be accurate, legible, and traceable back to its specific location in the field ; with minimal errors.

A big chunk of the role is communication. You’ll need to build real working relationships with the owner, the owner’s representative, and the company’s site supervision. The goal is straightforward: keep the quality objectives moving forward without friction.

You’ll also run regularly scheduled QA/QC meetings, keep logs of deficiencies and punch list items, and maintain all the documentation and meeting minutes in the job folder. Scheduling inspections with local, state, and federal agencies plus third party testing labs is part of it too.

One thing you’ll need to be sharp on: knowing the difference between a Project Specification and a Standard Code. When the project spec doesn’t meet the minimum code requirement, you’ll need to apply the correct code to protect the company’s interests. If something falls outside your expertise, you consult with the Director of Quality.

And yes ; there are other duties as they come up. You’ll also stay current on all job related certifications.

Travel requirement: Up to 100%. This position requires you to be on the project site itself.

What You Need to Bring

  • At least 1 year of experience in a QA/QC role. An engineering or technical degree can substitute for that year of experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years working in a construction environment.
  • Training and practical knowledge of multiple construction trades.
  • Extreme proficiency in Microsoft Office ; that’s Outlook, Excel, Word, SharePoint, Teams, and PowerPoint.
  • Real experience with construction management software platforms.
  • Proven capabilities with Bluebeam.
  • Familiarity with a broad range of construction processes and nomenclature: testing lab protocols, soils and concrete testing, asphalt paving, structural steel, mechanical, welding, and general construction observations.
  • The ability to read construction plans and specs ; and spot errors, contradictions, or redundancies that need to be resolved by others.
  • Knowledge of applicable codes and standards.
  • A methodical approach to documentation so project QC stays complete, issues get closed, and risk gets managed.
  • A professional attitude and appearance at all times.
