Job Overview
This L&D RN role is for a nurse who thrives in the intensity and reward of labor and delivery. You'll provide direct patient care to mothers and newborns throughout the birthing process, from admission through postpartum recovery. The position is based in Fort Wayne, IN, serving the local community in a hospital setting.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Monitor fetal heart tones and maternal vital signs, interpreting strips for non reassuring patterns.
- Administer medications, including IV oxytocin drips and epidural analgesia, with precise dosage management.
- Coach patients through all stages of labor, providing physical support and critical emotional reassurance.
- Assist physicians or midwives during deliveries, cesarean sections, and other obstetric procedures.
- Perform immediate newborn assessments and stabilization right in the delivery room.
- Document every intervention and assessment meticulously in the electronic health record.
Requirements
- A current, unencumbered RN license for the state where Fort Wayne, IN is located.
- BLS and ACLS certifications are mandatory; NRP certification is required or must be obtained quickly.
- A minimum of one year of recent experience in a Labor & Delivery unit is essential.
- The ability to stay calm under extreme pressure and make rapid clinical decisions is non negotiable.
- This job involves constant standing, walking, lifting, and bending; it's physically demanding shift work.
