Assistant Store Manager

Alright, let's talk about being a Mate at Trader Joe's in Fort Wayne, IN. It's not your typical assistant manager gig. You're in the mix with the crew, running a register one minute and helping unload a truck the next. Your main job is to lead the team that makes this place tick for our customers.

What you'll do

You'll be right there on the floor. That means you're part of the daily flow of the store.

• Jump on a register to keep lines moving.
• Pack groceries with some actual care so the bread doesn't get crushed.
• Stock shelves and help receive product deliveries.
• The big one: you lead and develop the crew. You do this by setting an example, giving clear direction, and supporting them.
• Get to know your team members and work alongside them.
• Find ways to make the store a better place for both customers and crew.
• Coach people to be their best. You're modeling the behavior that makes Trader Joe's what it is.

What you need to bring

We're looking for leaders who've been in the trenches of customer facing work. Here are our specifics.

• A solid three years, minimum, of recent experience in retail, restaurants, or hospitality. You know what it's like on a busy floor.
• At least two years of recent experience where you were directly responsible for supervising or managing a team.
• A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Show us you have a real history of developing people and building teams. We want leaders who do it with integrity and by empowering others.
