Hey there. I've been recruiting for gig economy roles for over a decade, and I'm just going to lay this one out straight. This is for delivering with DoorDash in Fort Lauderdale, FL. It's not a traditional job posting because, well, it's not a traditional job. You're using their platform to pick up work when you want it.
What This Is
You'd be delivering stuff; mostly meals, but also groceries and retail orders from convenience stores. The whole model is built on flexibility. You open the Dasher app, see available delivery offers, and choose which ones to accept. You pick up the order and drop it off. That's the core of it.
You get paid per delivery. The app shows you the minimum you'll make for an offer before you tap to accept it.
The Practical Stuff You Need
- You have to be at least 18 years old.
- If you plan on delivering any alcohol orders, you need to be 21+.
- A valid driver's license.
- A Social Security number (this is for US based work).
- A smartphone you can use reliably for the app.
- A way to get around: a car, scooter, or bicycle works in many areas.
There are a few states where the age minimum is 19 instead of 18: Arizona, California, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Kentucky, Montana, New Jersey, New Mexico, Texas, Utah, and West Virginia.
How You Get Paid & Start
The sign up process is online and meant to be quick. If you're eligible and verified, there's an option called "DasherDirect" to get your earnings the same day you work without fees; that's through a bank partner called Starion Bank.
You control your schedule completely. Work for an hour or all day. Weekends, weekdays, after school; it's up to you. People use this for side income or as a more full time thing.
