Medical Lab Technician

What you'll do

This is a Medical Laboratory Assistant role supporting the pre analytical and post analytical work inside Essentia Health's labs. You're the person who makes sure specimens are collected, handled, and processed correctly so the testing team can do their job. Patient safety comes first in everything you do here.

• Collect specimens through venipuncture or capillary skin puncture, plus other samples like urine and swabs
• Process and handle specimens according to the specific requirements for each test
• Perform waived lab testing following accreditation and state licensure standards
• Help train new employees, students, and other personnel as needed
• Follow Essentia Health's safety and quality policies when working with specimens and equipment

What you need to bring

There are two ways to qualify for this role. You either have a graduate certificate from a Medical Laboratory Assistant Program, or you finish Essentia Health's internal MLA training program within one year of your start date.

Things that give you an edge if you have them:

• Certification as a Phlebotomy or Medical Laboratory Assistant through ASCP
• Recent hands on experience with specimen prep and processing
• A valid motor vehicle operator's license
• Knowledge of medical terminology and basic computer skills

Schedule and pay

This is a full time position ; 80 hours per pay period. The shift is a day/eve rotation, and you'll work weekends. Pay ranges from $17.63 to $26.45 per hour depending on experience.

Location

This position is based at South University Clinic in Fargo, ND.
