Grainger

Material Handler

Grainger·Fargo, ND

About This Role

Alright, let's talk about this warehouse job in Fargo, ND. It's a full time position on the day shift, and you'd be working out of the distribution center here. You'll report to a supervisor and work alongside a team every day.

What you'd do

Your main focus is handling products coming in and going out of the warehouse. That means a mix of tasks; you could be unloading trucks, sorting items, putting labels on boxes, restocking shelves, checking inventory counts, or packing orders for shipment. The goal is to get things where they need to go correctly and quickly.

  • You'll use computerized scanners for most tasks.
  • Keeping your work area clean and organized is a big part of the job, and you have to follow all the safety rules for OSHA and handling hazardous materials.
  • The schedule's Monday through Friday. You'd start at either 9:00 AM or 10:00 AM and work until the shift's work is done.
  • There are standards for safety, quality, how much gets done, your conduct, and attendance. Overtime happens when it's needed.

What you need

This isn't an office job. You're on your feet in a warehouse environment with some heat, cold, noise, and dust. You're working around moving equipment and sometimes up on elevated platforms.

  • You have to be at least 18 years old.
  • The physical part is real; you're frequently lifting, sliding, and lowering packages that can weigh up to 75 pounds.
  • You need to be someone who can take feedback well and mesh with a team.

If you've worked in a warehouse before, or maybe in retail or customer service somewhere busy, that's a plus. Being sharp on details, quality, and safety will help you out a lot here.

Pay & schedule

The pay starts at $20.65 an hour. If you get certified to operate powered industrial equipment (PIE), like forklifts or order pickers, there's an extra $1 per hour on top of that.

The schedule is the day shift: Monday through Friday. Your start time is either 9:00 AM or 10:00 AM; you work until the shift's tasks are complete.

Benefits

These kick in on your very first day of employment.

  • Medical insurance, dental coverage, vision plans, and life insurance are all active from day one.
  • You get access to up to half of your earned pay before payday if you need it.
  • The PTO plan gives full time employees 18 days off per year (it accrues based on your start date). There are also 6 fixed company holidays annually.
  • The company puts 6% into a 401(k) retirement savings plan for you each pay period; you don't have to contribute anything to get that match.
  • The list keeps going: employee discounts on products we sell; parental leave; other benefits programs; they even provide safety shoes where applicable so you don't have to buy them yourself.

A quick note on pay: The rate we mentioned is what we expect to pay for this role right now. It isn't a guaranteed amount forever; Grainger can change its compensation or benefit programs down the line if needed.

A couple more specifics

  • For Powered Industrial Equipment (PIE): If that extra $1/hour appeals to you, know that operating this equipment is part of the role for some associates. This includes vehicles like Crown, Pacer, Reach Truck, Order Picker, Barrett, and Turret Truck. You’d need to be able and willing to learn those machines.
