Wound Care RN

About This Role

Alright, let's talk about this Wound Care RN position at Las Palmas Medical Center in El Paso, TX. It's a PRN role, which means you pick up shifts as needed. No set schedule, but you need to be ready when they call.

What You'd Be Doing

You're the nurse providing direct care for surgical and wound patients. You'll use the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate treatment. That means monitoring patients closely; you've got to recognize changes in their condition and know what to do about it.

You're coordinating with the whole Burn Wound team, including physicians. Part of your job is making sure patients move smoothly into and out of the department. You'll also assign patients to other nursing staff based on how acute their needs are and who's available.

  • Planning surgical cases with other departments to prevent delays.
  • Following all unit and facility policies and procedures.
  • Maintaining standards for JCAHO accreditation.
  • Acting as a preceptor for other staff when needed.

The Must Haves & The Nice To Haves

First things first: you need an active Texas RN license. BCLS certification is also required. For education, an Associate's or Bachelor's in Nursing works.

A minimum of one year of clinical practice in your unit's specialty is expected. They prefer someone with Medical Surgical experience. But here’s what would really make you stand out:

  • ACLS certification.
  • Being bilingual is a big plus.

The Hospital & The Support

Las Palmas is a 300+ bed full service hospital. It’s home to the region’s only kidney transplant center and has a Level III trauma center. They handle cardiac care, women’s services, a pediatric NICU, cancer care; the whole spectrum. They're part of HCA Healthcare, which gets recognized pretty often for ethics.

The Benefits (For When You Work)

Since it's PRN, benefit eligibility varies, but here’s what the overall package looks like for eligible colleagues. It's a lot more than just health insurance.

  • A comprehensive medical plan that covers many common services with low or no copay; includes prescription drug and behavioral health coverage.
  • Free telemedicine services and free AirMed medical transportation are part of the medical plan.
  • Additional options for dental and vision benefits.
  • Life insurance; disability coverage; flexible spending accounts.
  • A whole suite of supplemental plans: accident, critical illness, hospital indemnity protection.
  • Auto insurance; home insurance; identity theft protection; legal counseling; long term care coverage; even pet insurance.
  • Moving assistance programs are available too.
  • A 401(k) Plan with a 100% match on 3% to 9% of your pay (the match depends on your years of service).
