About This Role
Alright, let's talk about this PACU RN opening in El Paso, TX. The hospital is building out their team and they need someone who knows how to handle the immediate aftermath of surgery. It's a critical spot where your attention to detail directly impacts a patient's recovery path.
What you'd be doing
Your main focus is on that immediate post operative period. You're the first point of care after surgery, monitoring vitals and managing symptoms as patients come out from under anesthesia.
- You'll administer medications and follow through on treatment plans from the medical staff.
- A big part of this is collaboration. You're working hand in hand with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and the whole surgical team to make sure a patient's move from the OR to the PACU, and eventually toward discharge, goes smoothly.
- You're also teaching patients and their families what comes next. That means explaining pain management, wound care, and what potential complications to watch for.
- And of course, keeping everything documented accurately and on time is just part of the job.
The background we need
We're looking at a few specific boxes that need checking for this role.
- You need an Associate’s Degree in Nursing or higher. An ADN works.
- A current, unencumbered Registered Nurse license is non negotiable.
- They'd really like to see at least one year of experience in a PACU or ICU. Any similar high acuity setting works too; it's about being comfortable in that kind of intense environment.
- Certifications are specific: BLS and ACLS from the American Heart Association.
- Being good with people and clear in your communication matters here; you're constantly coordinating with a team.
- You should know your way around an electronic medical record system without much trouble.
A bit more about the place & schedule
The hospital itself has some notable features. It operates as both a Level 1 and Level 3 trauma center, so the case mix can be broad. They offer cross training opportunities and even have a nurse self care program, which tells you something about how they view staff well being. They're also offering a sign on bonus for this position.
For scheduling, they've got flexibility. They need coverage for day shift, night shift, and mid shift openings. You can find full time, part time, or per diem roles here; they're filling multiple spots.
