Alright, let's talk about this Director role for the 5 North Medical Surgical unit. It's a big job, and it needs someone who can handle the day to day while also planning for what's next.
The Job
You're in charge of everything on 5 North. That means you're responsible for the quality of patient care, daily department operations, productivity, and future planning for the service line. Your goal is to keep things running safely and efficiently.
You'll work on quality improvement, manage staff competency, control inventory and costs, and focus on satisfaction; for patients, your staff, and physicians. You'll lead by example and make sure everyone's aligned with the hospital's mission and policies.
A big part of this is coordination. You'll promote collaboration between nursing, medical teams, respiratory care, lab, pharmacy, and even public relations.
What You'll Be Doing
- Developing, monitoring, and analyzing the budget for the department.
- Creating plans with the Administrative Director for the capital resources needed to maintain quality care in the unit.
- Administering and evaluating Quality Improvement initiatives for all services provided.
- Managing all Human Resources processes; that includes hiring, evaluations, terminations, counseling, coaching, and staff development.
- Directing professional nursing practice to maintain quality patient care through implementing and evaluating clinical standards.
- Developing, interpreting, inspecting,and reviewing departmental policies and procedures.
- Developing,instituting,and implementing Disaster Preparedness policies for the organization.
- Collaborating on marketing efforts for the department.This involves educational programs external advertising,and working with local regional programs
- Providing 24 hour coverage for problem resolution within your services
The Specifics You Need
- A current RN license in Texas or from a compact state. This is required.
- You can have an Associate Degree,a Bachelor's Degree or a Registered Nurse Diploma
- Basic Cardiac Life Support certification is needed
- A few certifications have specific timelines: ACLS is required within six months of your hire date.PALS is required within one year And ANCC Orthopedic Nurse Certification is required within three years of hire
