About This Role

Job Overview

This is a hands on role for a Physical Therapist Assistant in the Detroit, MI area. You'll work directly with patients, helping them regain movement and manage pain under the guidance of a licensed Physical Therapist. The setting is clinical, focused on delivering tangible progress through structured therapy sessions.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Implement treatment plans developed by the supervising Physical Therapist.
  • Guide patients through therapeutic exercises and functional activities.
  • Apply modalities like ultrasound, electrical stimulation, or heat/cold packs as directed.
  • Document patient responses and progress notes after each session.
  • Educate patients and their families on home exercise programs and safety techniques.
  • Maintain treatment areas and equipment, ensuring a clean and safe environment.

Requirements

  • An associate's degree from an accredited PTA program.
  • A current, active license or eligibility to practice as a PTA in the state where Detroit, MI is situated.
  • CPR/BLS certification is typically required.
  • The stamina to be on your feet most of the day, assisting patients with mobility which can include lifting or supporting them.
  • A clear understanding of your scope of practice and when to consult the supervising PT.

What It's Like In This Role

The day is built around patient appointments. You'll use standard clinic equipment; parallel bars, treadmills, resistance bands; and document everything in an electronic medical records system. It's collaborative; you're the PT's eyes and ears between their check ins. Caseloads are steady, so time management is crucial. You'll see a mix of post op recoveries, chronic conditions, and injury rehab, which keeps things interesting.

Why You'll Like This Opportunity

The schedule here often has more predictability than some healthcare roles. There's real variety in patient cases from one day to the next. For new grads or those new to Detroit, MI, it's a solid way to build clinical experience across different diagnoses. Many facilities offer support for continuing education credits too.

Schedule & Work Type

This is primarily an onsite position at a clinic or outpatient facility in Detroit, MI. Most openings are for full time hours during standard clinic operations (e.g., Monday Friday day shifts), but part time opportunities do come up. Weekend work isn't common in these settings unless it's part of a specific hospital rotation schedule.
