Industrial Maintenance Technician
About This Role
Alright, let's talk about this Maintenance Technician spot at our plant in Detroit, MI. We need someone who gets a real sense of satisfaction from figuring out why a machine stopped and getting it running again. It's a first shift role, Monday to Friday from 7 AM to 4 PM, but you've got to be okay with required overtime when it comes up. The pay range is $30 to $35 an hour, plus there's a quarterly bonus opportunity and you're paid weekly.
What you'll do here
Your main focus is keeping the production floor moving. You'll be the go to for troubleshooting when equipment goes down, finding the root cause, making the repair, and keeping the Maintenance Manager in the loop.
- Oversee and perform scheduled machine preventative maintenance (PMs). You'll follow the schedule from Manufacturing and can recommend new PMs if you see a need.
- Help make sure the machine operators are completing their own PM checklists.
- Team up with our Regional Maintenance support on bigger projects. That includes installing new equipment, removing old machines, and moving things around.
- There will be some limited weekend or off shift work required for special projects or PMs that can't happen during production.
- Keep the parts and tool storage organized. It helps everyone work faster.
- Assist machine operators with basic operational issues they run into.
The skills and experience you need
We're looking for practical, hands on experience. You don't have to be perfect at everything, but you need a solid foundation and the drive to learn more.
- Advanced mechanical knowledge is a must. We're talking gears, bearings, speeds, reducers, motors; the whole system.
- You have to be able to troubleshoot problems across mechanical, electrical, and control systems.
- A basic grasp of general building repair is helpful: simple carpentry, plumbing fixes, that sort of thing.
- Specific experience with 480 volt electrical systems is required for this role.
- You're someone who can follow detailed instructions but also retain that knowledge and build on it.
- Doing routine PMs; greasing, cleaning, resetting counters; should be second nature.
- This role requires being on call on a rotating basis to help with after hours issues. Sometimes that means driving back to the plant; you're compensated for that drive time and all hours worked outside your shift.
- A self motivated approach where you complete tasks efficiently is key. And safety isn't just a policy here; it's how you perform every task.
