About This Role

What You'll Do

This is a remote Reimbursement Specialist role with Addus Homecare, focused on home health and hospice billing. You'll work Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm Central Standard Time. The pay is $21 to $24 per hour.

Your job is managing the full revenue cycle for new referrals. That means you're investigating insurance benefits before services start, handling authorizations, submitting clean claims, and following up on payments across a variety of payers. You'll interpret patient insurance documents and prescription coverage accurately, then verify benefits with both commercial and government plans. Communication is constant ; you're talking with insurance companies, patients, providers, and prescribers to coordinate reimbursement solutions.

  • Review unpaid accounts regularly and take appropriate action to get them paid
  • Check every claim for compliance and completeness before submission
  • Research alternative funding options to reduce what patients owe out of pocket
  • Handle high call volumes without dropping details
  • Work with internal departments and external contacts to keep care coordinated
  • Keep sensitive information confidential at all times
  • Follow Medicare, Medicaid, HIPAA regulations ; plus all internal policies
  • Maintain consistent attendance and adapt when the department needs flexibility

What You Need

A high school diploma or equivalent is required. An undergraduate degree is preferred but not mandatory. The ideal candidate has five years of healthcare collections or billing experience under their belt ; though that's preferred rather than required.

The technical stuff matters here. You need a strong grasp of hospice billing regulations for Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurers. Reading EOBs? Should be second nature. Denial codes? You know what they mean. Remittances are not a mystery.

  • Effective follow up strategies with payers and escalation paths when things stall
  • The ability to resolve claim holds, rejections, denials from root cause up
  • A sharp eye for denial trends so you can prevent recurring issues instead of just reacting
  • Aptitude working AR reports and aging summaries accurately ; no guesswork
  • Crystal clear communication when explaining payer problems in plain language anyone can understand
  • Quick alphanumeric data entry that doesn't sacrifice accuracy for speed
  • Computer proficiency with MS Office and web based applications (strongly preferred)
  • Customer service skills that keep both internal teams and external contacts happy working with you
  • The discipline to organize your own work effectively from start to finish while hitting productivity targets daily.
  • A self starter attitude with serious follow through who works well alone or as part of a team.

Experience That Helps You Stand Out

Home Health or Hospice background directly relevant experience; it's different from general medical billing.

HCHB (HomeCare HomeBase) software knowledge especially valuable here though not required.

*Five years healthcare collections/billing experience recommended but candidates may still succeed with less if other qualifications strong enough .
