About This Role

The Job

SRS Building Products in Des Moines, IA needs a CDL Driver & Crane Operator who can get building materials to job sites safely and on time. This isn't a desk job ; it's out on the road, at construction sites, and in the warehouse every day. You'll be behind the wheel of a commercial vehicle, running cranes and forklifts, and making sure every delivery arrives without damage. The role covers a 200 mile radius from the home branch, and you'll be back home every single day ; no overnight trips.

What You'll Actually Do

  • Drive a truck and operate a crane to deliver building materials to job sites within a 200 mile radius, following DOT regulations and company policies
  • Perform pre trip and post trip inspections on the vehicle and equipment
  • Run cranes, forklifts, and conveyor belts to load and unload materials
  • Coordinate with rooftop loaders and ground crews to get deliveries accurate and damage free
  • Verify inventory against orders and take photos of deliveries for documentation
  • Assess each job site for safety hazards before you start unloading
  • Talk with customers on site and keep things professional ; you're the face of the company at delivery
  • Help out with warehouse and yard maintenance when you're back at the branch
  • Support the branch operations team by prioritizing tasks as they come up

Who You Are

You've got a valid CDL with an air brakes endorsement and a clean driving record ; no hit and run, DWI, or DUI in the past 36 months. You can lift 100 pounds regularly and work outside in whatever weather shows up. You're comfortable climbing ladders and working at heights. You know your way around a pre trip inspection and can spot a mechanical issue before it becomes a problem. You can operate conveyor belts, knuckle booms, or crane equipped trucks. Forklift experience is a plus, and a forklift certification is even better. You understand DOT and OSHA standards and you follow safety protocols without cutting corners. You speak, read, and write English well enough to handle documentation and communicate with customers and coworkers. You'll need to pass a background check and a drug screening.

Experience & Certifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 1 to 2 years of commercial driving experience is preferred but not strictly required ; but if you've done it before, you're ahead of the game
  • Experience in distribution or forklift operation is a plus
  • Current DOT medical certificate
  • NCCCO Crane Certification with ABC/ABL certification is required
  • Truck Crane Operation Certification is preferred but not mandatory
  • Telescopic Boom - Fixed Cab Certification is preferred but not mandatory
  • Boom Truck - Fixed Cab Certification is preferred but not mandatory

Who You Report To

You'll report directly to the Assistant Branch Manager or the Operations Manager.

What the Job Is Like Day to Day

This is a field based role, which means you're not stuck in one spot. You'll be driving, lifting, operating equipment, and talking with customers at various job sites. Every day is different, but the goal is always the same: get the materials there safe, accurate, and on time. You need to stay organized, communicate clearly, and think on your feet when something goes sideways. The work is physically demanding ; lifting up to 100 pounds, working in all weather, climbing ladders, and dealing with high noise levels. But if you like being on the move and working with your hands, it's a good fit.

Compensation & Benefits

SRS Building Products offers a solid benefits package. You'll get medical, dental, and vision insurance. There's a 401(k) with a company match. They offer paid time off as well. Specific pay range and benefit details will be discussed during the interview.
