Structural Engineer

Leidos·Denver, CO

About This Role

Alright, let's get straight to it. We need a Senior Civil/Structural Engineer for our Power Delivery team. This isn't an entry level drafting gig; it's a senior technical and leadership position focused on substation design. You'll be the lead engineer on client projects, making sure the steel, concrete, and everything in between is done right.

What you'll be doing

You're the go to for civil and structural quality on substation projects. That means leading design reviews for all kinds of structures; steel, concrete, foundations, geotech systems, rigid bus, containment; the whole site package. You'll oversee the development of bid and construction packages to keep projects on scope, schedule, and budget.

A big part of this is mentoring junior engineers. Sharing your knowledge and helping them grow is non negotiable. You'll also represent us directly with clients in meetings and at industry events.

And you won't just be at a desk. Expect to visit substation sites; we need those field insights to make our designs stronger. Your job is to champion quality control and safe work practices on every single project.

The specifics we need

  • A Bachelor of Science in Civil or Structural Engineering is required. A Master's degree would be a great plus.
  • You must have a Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • We're looking for at least eight years of experience in utility consulting, design engineering, and technical reviews.
  • On the software side: you need to know Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and MATHCAD. Experience with STAAD.Pro, RISA 3D, FAD Tools, SAFE, SAG10, LPILE is important too.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD and MicroStation will help you out.
  • You have to be able to break down complex problems analytically and write about them clearly.
  • This role involves talking to clients and collaborating across different engineering disciplines all the time; your communication skills need to be sharp.
  • Be ready to travel up to 25% of the time for site visits and client engagements.

Location & schedule

The preferred work location is Denver, CO, which offers a hybrid schedule. There's also an option based in Walled Lake, MI (also hybrid). We're flexible on which office you call home base if you've got the right experience.

Pay & benefits

The pay range for this position is $92,300 to $166,850 per year. Just so we're clear: that range is a guideline based on this job level. The final offer depends on a bunch of factors like your specific responsibilities within the role, your education and experience depth, your skillset alignment with our needs; plus internal equity and market data.

The benefits package includes competitive compensation tied into Health & Wellness programs (think medical), Income Protection plans (like life/disability insurance), Paid Leave (vacation/holidays/sick days), Retirement planning options (401k), plus other perks like training budgets. More details are available on our careers site if you want the full breakdown before applying.
