This is a Senior Drilling Engineer position with BP Energy, based in Denver, CO. You would be joining the Wells Group under Production & Operations. The Day to Day
You'll lead the extended well engineering team ; BP staff and contractors ; to design and deliver optimal well plans. Those plans need to hit program, HSE, performance, and life of well objectives. You'll review technical documents like SoRs, BoDs, and engineering models. You'll define well scope and activity to get accurate cost and time estimates for FM/AFE. You'll also oversee the well specific Risk Register and make sure it's complete with relevant preventions and mitigations. When needed, you'll facilitate discussions about risks during procedural reviews.
You'll support the Engineering Manager and Wells Superintendent, and you can take delegation as required. Coaching less experienced staff is part of this ; you'll mentor them on company beliefs, how we work, and the Safety Leadership Principles.
Who You Are
- You have at least 10 years of experience in upstream well construction.
- You're experienced with HP and deepwater well designs that use MPD.
- You have a working knowledge of GoA (Gulf of America) regulatory requirements.
- You hold a Bachelor of Science in an engineering discipline ; or higher.
What You'll Own
Safety and Risk Management
- Verify that well control and process safety risks are identified and mitigated in design and operations.
- Lead self verification and oversight of activities.
- Identify HAZOP and risk assessment needs for emerging risks. Serve as an independent challenger in those assessments.
- Support incident investigations.
Conformance and Compliance
- Lead oversight of well design, permitting, and operations ; making sure everything follows regulations and BP requirements.
- Lead communication with regulators.
- Challenge current standards and propose new approaches when appropriate.
- Identify and recommend MOCs or deviations if needed.
Leadership and Culture
- Model the company values and code of conduct in your words and actions.
- Coach less experienced staff on our beliefs, how we work, and safety leadership.
- Promote inclusion and build enduring capability in yourself and others.
- Promote cross functional integration in well planning and execution.
Well Planning and Execution
- Conduct rig and yard visits as needed.
- Review and verify well specific technical design documents and procedures.
- Make sure the wells authorities and Central Well Support are engaged.
- Lead the documentation of knowledge within the team ; findings, best practices, case histories ; using tools and databases like Connexus.
- Work with Connexus to identify and embed cross regional and industry findings and new technology.
- Provide engineering oversight of contractor services and product quality, including new technology.
- Verify equipment assurance and QA/QC requirements are applied.
- Collaborate with subsea teams to make sure requirements are incorporated into subsea equipment and operations.
- Verify that well handover documentation to the next discipline is timely and accurate.

Travel and Location
Expect up to 10% travel with this role. Relocation assistance is available within the country. This position is not available for remote work.
