This Estimator position sits squarely at the center of a busy electrical contracting operation. You'll direct the whole estimating department, set the technical standards, and own the training and staffing decisions. It's not a desk job; it's a leadership role that demands real expertise in electrical systems and project pricing.
What You'll Actually Do
- Direct the estimating department and establish technical standards and procedures
- Take overall responsibility for training and staffing within the estimating team
- Provide ongoing supervision and accountability for Stop Gate estimating processes
- Assess estimating personnel on job qualifications, performance, and compensation
- Build highly collaborative, solution oriented relationships with Directors of Project Management, General Superintendents, Project Coordination, HR, Engineering, and Design
- Communicate directly with customers about their RFP and bid proposal processes ; managing deadlines, reviewing documents for follow up RFIs, answering general questions
- Negotiate with vendor partners including manufacturers, distributors, and subcontractors
- Execute strategies around bid proposal follow up efforts and bid results
- Strategize new bid opportunities by collaborating with Business Development teams, project managers, account managers, and preconstruction support
- Lead and organize new bid estimate strategy planning sessions
- Implement quality control through the Stop Gate 1 process
- Assign estimating tasks based on each person's experience and aptitude
- Develop and monitor preliminary and final scope price proposals
