VP of Operations

MV Transportation·Dallas, TX

About This Role

Alright, let's talk about this one. This isn't a job for someone who's just looking to manage a few routes. We need an operator. Someone who knows that running a school bus operation is about way more than buses; it's about safety, community, and keeping a massive, complex machine running smoothly every single day.

MV Transportation has been doing this for over 50 years. We're the largest privately owned passenger transportation contractor in the country. That comes with a reputation we protect fiercely, built on Safety, Service, Integrity, and Innovation.

Right now, we need a Vice President of Operations to take full ownership of a major school bus contract in Dallas, TX. You'd be running the show for 67 full size and special education buses. You're not just overseeing managers; you're the senior leader on the ground, accountable for everything from the morning bell to the bottom line.

What you'll be running

Think of yourself as the CEO of this operation. Your world is split into five critical areas, and you've got to juggle them all.

  • First, operations and strategy. You direct all daily activity for those 67 buses. The goal is simple: consistent on time performance and excellent service. You'll develop the plans to get there; optimizing routes, staffing models, how we use the fleet, and maintenance performance.
  • Safety isn't just a department here; it's the culture. You'll drive our "Safe from the Start" mindset through every layer of your team. Full compliance with Texas DPS, TEA, FMCSA; all of it; is non negotiable. You own driver training standards (especially for special education securement), incident analysis, and making sure we're always getting better.
  • The team is everything. You'll lead and develop a diverse group: operations managers, dispatchers, safety supervisors, drivers, monitors, maintenance leadership. Your job is to build a culture where people are engaged and accountable because they know what they do matters.
  • You are MV's face to the school district. As the senior liaison, you ensure transparent communication and solve problems before they escalate. Expect to be in district board meetings and community events as our executive representative.
  • And none of it works without financial health. You manage operating budgets and cost controls while overseeing fleet maintenance programs and vendor relationships.

The experience you need

This role requires a specific kind of background. We're looking for proven leaders who've operated at scale.

  • A minimum of ten years in progressive leadership roles within pupil transportation transit logistics or fleet operations
  • A track record of successfully running multi location or high volume transportation operations
  • A strong working knowledge of Texas pupil transportation rules including SPED requirements
  • Deep expertise in DOT/FMCSA compliance safety leadership and operational performance management
  • Proven success leading large teams through organizational change
  • Exceptional communication skills especially when dealing with public sector clients like school districts

What would make you stand out

A few things would really help you hit the ground running here in Texas:

  • Prior hands on experience with school bus operations specifically within Texas
  • A background in an executive or regional role at another contract based transportation provider
  • Familiarity with routing platforms like Transfinder or Edulog along with other transportation tech systems
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Business Transportation Management or something similar rounds it out nicely but isn't an absolute must have if your experience speaks for itself
