About This Role

What You'll Do as a Vascular Access RN

You're the person patients and staff rely on when IV access gets complicated. This isn't a general med surg role ; it's a specialty position where you'll handle PICC insertions, midline catheters, and other vascular access procedures for patients across the hospital. You'll use the nursing process every day: assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. It's clinical work that requires focus, precision, and the confidence to handle difficult cases.

Your shifts run 3p to 11p, Monday through Sunday. That's 8 hour mid/evening shifts. The schedule is part of what makes this role work for nurses who want consistent hours without overnight shifts.

What You'll Actually Be Doing

  • Performing PICC and midline catheter insertions for patients with challenging venous access
  • Assessing patients' vascular access needs and selecting the right device for each case
  • Managing central lines and troubleshooting complications as they arise
  • Collaborating with physicians, floor nurses, and the rest of the care team to coordinate treatment
  • Documenting procedures and patient responses thoroughly in the medical record
  • Teaching patients and families about catheter care and what to watch for
  • Participating in quality improvement initiatives related to vascular access
  • Mentoring newer nurses and helping them build IV skills

What You Need to Bring

  • A graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing ; BSN or MSN preferred but not required
  • Current, unencumbered license to practice professional nursing in Texas (or eligibility to get one)
  • Current CPR certification (BLS for Healthcare Providers)
  • Current certification in PICC or midline catheter insertion ; this is non negotiable
  • 5 or more years of RN experience, with at least 2 years of IV management preferred
