Plumber

Alright, here's the deal. Upchurch is looking for a plumber who knows their stuff inside and out, specifically for big commercial buildings. We're talking hospitals, office towers, schools; the kind of places where the plumbing systems are complex and downtime isn't an option.

This isn't a helper or apprentice gig. You need to be the person they call when something breaks at 2 AM or when a boiler needs a major service. It's hands on, it's technical, and you've got to be comfortable working on your own initiative.

What you'll be doing

• Troubleshoot, fix, and replace all kinds of commercial plumbing: domestic water lines, sanitary drains, storm systems, process piping.
• Handle everything with commercial boilers; both hot water and low pressure steam. That means maintaining controls, burners, safety valves, condensate returns; the whole system.
• Service pump skids for water boosting, heating loops, pressure maintenance.
• Test and certify backflow prevention devices to keep everything up to code.
• Clear blockages with hydro jetting equipment and use inspection cameras to diagnose sewer line issues.
• Read blueprints and schematics to figure out what's needed for a job before you start.
• Keep detailed records of every service call, inspection, and repair.
• Manage your truck stock and keep your tools and vehicle in good shape.
• You're on a rotating on call schedule for emergencies. When you get that call, you diagnose fast and get things running again with minimal disruption.

The experience you need

• A minimum of five years working on commercial plumbing in large facilities.
• Real world experience servicing commercial boiler systems. You should know burner controls, safety devices like pressure/temperature valves, water treatment procedures; all of it. Specific knowledge of low pressure steam practices as defined by code is required.
• A solid background with pump skid systems. Understanding pump curves and variable frequency drives is important.
• Experience testing and repairing backflow prevention assemblies according to local municipal rules.
• A history using hydro jetting equipment and sewer cameras on large scale drain lines in commercial settings.
• The ability to read construction drawings and specs to plan pipe layouts or installations from scratch.

The paperwork & physical side

• A valid Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners license (journeyman or master level).
• A clean driver's license record is mandatory; you'll have a company vehicle.

The work itself is physical. You'll frequently lift up to 50 pounds. The job involves climbing ladders or scaffolding sometimes; working in tight spaces happens too. Good communication with clients and our internal team is just part of getting the job done right every time.

A Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester (BPAT) certification or equivalent. Experience with large mechanical loops found in central plant systems. Familiarity using mobile tablets or software for service reporting. Past work coordinating on projects that involved other trades like HVAC or electrical crews.

The schedule & pay details

This is a full time position based out of Dallas, TX. The schedule will include being part of an on call rotation for emergency service calls outside normal hours. The salary depends entirely on your specific experience level.
