About This Role
Alright, let's talk about this night shift role on the Labor & Delivery unit at Methodist Dallas. It's more than just a staff nurse position; you're the charge nurse, the one keeping everything moving and making sure the team has what it needs from 7 PM to 7 AM. The schedule varies, so you'll need some flexibility there.
What You'll Be Doing
You're the frontline leader for the department on your shift. That means direct patient care, of course, but also a lot of coordination and decision making to maintain a safe, therapeutic environment.
- You develop the staffing plan based on how acute the patients are and oversee all the day to day (or night to night) operations.
- Monitoring workflow is key; you'll adjust staffing as needed to keep things efficient and support the unit's financial goals.
- A big part of the job is managing patient flow. You ensure timely admissions to the unit and that discharges happen without unnecessary delays.
- You'll work with the manager on objectives like patient experience scores, controlling length of stay, and hitting specific quality measures.
- The role includes pitching in on department projects, process improvements, peer interviews, and helping with employee evaluations when asked.
- Sometimes you'll assist with investigating occurrences or incidents.
What You Need to Bring
The requirements here are specific. They're looking for an experienced nurse ready to step into a leadership spot.
- A BSN from an accredited school is required. No exceptions on that one.
- You need your current RN license for Texas or a compact license that includes it.
- All the standard clinical certifications for an L&D RN must be current: Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, NRP. You know the drill.
- If you're hired from outside Methodist, you have 90 days to complete their charge nurse training and competencies.
- They also want an advanced specialty certification relevant to your area; think CCRN, CEN, RNC. If you don't have it yet, you need a plan to get it within two years of starting.
A Bit About Where You'd Work

They've got a renowned breast center and celebrated 90 years in service last year.
