Insurance Claims Specialist

GEICO·Dallas, TX

About This Role

What you'll be doing

You're the person customers and claimants turn to when things go wrong. In this Casualty Claims Examiner role with GEICO's Dallas, TX team, you'll handle attorney represented automobile liability claims from start to finish. That means complex investigations, coverage determinations, liability assessments, and bodily injury claim resolutions through both settlement and litigation.

Your day to day is a mix of investigation and negotiation. You'll talk to policyholders and claimants to guide them through the claims process, making sure they understand what's happening every step of the way. You'll verify coverage before processing payments, investigate each claim to figure out liability percentages and legal responsibility, and spot any indicators of fraud early on.

From there, you evaluate damages based on what you've found and set a value that pays only what's owed. Then comes the negotiation piece ; working with insureds, claimants, or attorneys from the first letter of representation all the way through settlement or verdict. You authorize payments up to your designated authority level and submit requests for higher approvals when needed.

Other responsibilities include adjusting reserves on new and existing claims, keeping up with Department of Insurance requirements as outlined in the Insurance Code, participating in claims forums as required, communicating findings to management on high exposure or unusual losses, plus other duties as assigned.

What you need

  • A minimum of five years of highly successful Bodily Injury claims handling experience
  • Prior private passenger automotive liability claims experience
  • An active Adjuster license at time of hire
  • Outstanding customer service skills and professional communication ; both oral and written
  • A solid understanding of Department of Insurance Guidelines in your state's Insurance Code
  • Exceptional negotiating skills
  • Proficient computer skills across all Microsoft Office Programs
  • A highly organized approach with ability to multi task in a high volume environment
  • Litigation handling experience is preferred but not required
  • The demonstrated ability to exercise good judgment consistently
  • A willingness to learn, openness to feedback, and comfort adapting to change
