About This Role
Alright, let's talk about this tax accountant role. We're looking for someone who gets into the details, who can handle a mix of routine filings and some pretty specific, interesting projects. It's not just about filling out forms; it's about understanding what the numbers mean and making sure we're doing things right.
What you'll be working on
You'll manage a variety of state and local tax responsibilities. That means preparing returns, reconciling accounts, and digging into the rules to make sure we're applying them correctly.
- Preparing Gross Receipt Tax Returns, Business Licenses, Property Tax Statements, and Sales/Use Tax returns.
- Reconciling business license and other tax account sub ledgers back to our general ledger.
- Researching state and local tax laws to ensure proper application.
- Analyzing specific general ledger accounts; like charitable contributions or penalties; to verify their accuracy.
- Working with our foreign subsidiaries, analyzing intercompany accounts for their tax returns and calculating related interest.
- Acting as the internal point of contact for managing the Work Opportunity Tax Credit program with our field teams and ADP.
- Handling Foreign Bank Account Reporting (FINCEN) and tax depreciation analysis.
- Preparing Form 3921 for Incentive Stock Option exercises.
- Sorting and distributing mail for the tax department is also part of the day to day.
The background you'll need
A Bachelor's degree in Accounting is required. You don't have to be a CPA, but if you are, that's a definite plus. We need someone with one to three years of accounting experience where you've focused on state and local tax. Experience working in a multi company environment is important too.
The way you work matters
This isn't a solo act; you're part of a team but also need to drive your own projects forward. The deadlines are real, especially around filings, so being organized is non negotiable. You'll be juggling several tasks at once.
- You have to be willing to put in extended hours when necessary to meet those accounting and tax deadlines.
- We need someone who can think through complex situations and find solutions that might not be obvious at first glance.
- Your computer skills should be solid, particularly with Microsoft Office applications like Excel. If you've used Lawson software before, that's another plus.
- The role involves minimal travel; we're talking maybe up to 5% of the time.
