What you'll actually do here

You'll work with patients who need respiratory care, from diagnostics to treatment. This isn't a behind the scenes gig ; you're right there with the patient and the care team.

Assess patients thoroughly: breath sounds, airway patency, cuff pressure ; and document everything
Run diagnostic procedures to figure out what kind of respiratory therapy people need and how they're responding
Deliver therapies like oxygen, aerosol medication, and chest physiotherapy
Help place artificial airways when needed
Start up and manage mechanical ventilation, both invasive and noninvasive
Keep an eye on how patients are responding to treatment
If something goes sideways, you're the one who notifies the provider and jumps in
Transport ventilator dependent patients safely
Handle emergencies ; maintain airway integrity and keep people breathing during resuscitation

What you need to bring

An Associate Degree (that's the minimum)
Your Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential from the NBRC
An active state Respiratory Therapist/Practitioner license
Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) ; you've got 60 months from your start date to get it
Neonate Resuscitation certification ; same deal, 60 months from when you start
PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) ; also within 60 months of your start date
NICU experience is preferred, but not required
