About This Role
Alright, let's talk about this MRI Tech PRN spot at Corpus Christi Medical Center in Corpus Christi, TX. It's a fill in position, which means the schedule isn't fixed. You pick up shifts as they come up.
What you'd be doing
You're running MRI procedures on your own. No one's looking over your shoulder for the routine stuff. The job is making sure everything from start to finish gets done right.
- Getting patients positioned and transferred safely; you'll use immobilization devices when needed.
- Your call to pick the right technical protocol for each individual patient.
- Operating the equipment according to direction.
- Following all the prescribed safety standards for magnet protection is a big deal here.
- Sterile technique is part of it when necessary.
- They'll cross train you in specific areas if it comes up, and you might help train other techs too.
- Keeping your own skills sharp and staying current with new techniques and equipment in MRI is expected.
- You're part of the call rotation system.
- The usual departmental upkeep: keeping good records, maintaining order and cleanliness, calibrating equipment when needed.
- Rotating shifts within the department is required.
The specifics we need
A couple of boxes to check before we go further. Here’s what’s required:
- An Associate Degree; a High School Graduate / GED or Vocational School Graduate qualifies too.
- A certification: either (ARRT MR) Magnetic Resonance Imaging or (ARMRIT) American Registry of MRI Technologists.
- A Basic Cardiac Life Support credential. Could be CPR, CPR for Healthcare Providers, or Heart Saver CPR. You've got 30 days from your start date to get this one sorted if you don't have it already.
The deal
The hospital itself is a major system in the area with over 630 beds across several facilities. You could be working at any of their sites, from acute care to cardiac specialty to behavioral health centers. They've listed a whole universe of benefits for their full time folks, but since this is a PRN role, eligibility varies. It's worth asking about what might apply to you during the hiring conversation. The list they provide covers just about everything: medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability coverage, flexible spending accounts. There are extra protection plans for accidents or critical illness. They offer auto and home insurance options, identity theft protection, legal counseling; even pet insurance and moving assistance.
A few other notable pieces from their total rewards package include fertility and family building benefits through Progyny; free counseling services; family support like adoption assistance; a 401(k) Plan with a 100% match on 3% to 9% of your pay (based on how long you've been there); an Employee Stock Purchase Plan; education assistance for tuition or certifications; and various paid time off programs. Again, check what applies specifically to PRN status.
