What this job is
This is an Emergency Room RN position at a hospital in Corpus Christi, TX. You'll work alongside medical providers and other care team members to deliver patient centered care. It's about coordinating treatment, teaching patients and families, and making sure people get the right care at the right time.
What you'll actually do day to day
- Assess patient pain regularly and follow up after any interventions to make sure pain management is working
- Perform procedures, monitoring, and other tasks as ordered by the medical provider
- Document everything you do in the patient's medical record, and do it thoroughly
- Respond to patient requests quickly and try to anticipate what they'll need before they have to ask
- Teach patients, families, and caregivers about medical conditions, treatment plans, medications, side effects, and follow up care
- Translate complex medical terminology into plain language so people actually understand what's going on
- Explain non medicinal follow up measures too ; like healthy eating, exercise, disease prevention, and other lifestyle changes
- Prepare patients and their families for managing things on their own after discharge
- Use established nursing models, specifically "Assess, Perform, Teach, and Manage," to guide your care
- Act as an advocate for your patients and their families, and model the organization's vision, mission, and values every shift
What you need to bring
- You must have a current Registered Nurse license in the state of Texas
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification, obtained within 30 days of your start date
- Nonviolent Crisis Intervention certification, obtained within 30 days of your start date
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification, obtained within 60 months of your start date
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification, obtained within 18 months of your start date
- Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC) or PALS Pediatric Advanced Life Support, obtained within 60 months of your start date
- A Bachelor's degree is preferred but not required
- At least 1 year of Emergency Department experience is preferred
