What the job is

This Service Technician position with Johnson Controls is based out of Columbus, OH. You'll be the person they send when a customer's fire alarm or building system goes down. You're not just turning a wrench; you're the face of the company on site, figuring out what's wrong and making it right.

You receive service calls from their Resource Center, then contact the customer to get the full picture of what's happening. From there, it's all about diagnosing the problem ; working through fire alarm systems, electronic systems, and related building products until they're running properly again. Some days that means following troubleshooting procedures step by step. Other days you're referencing technical manuals, part manuals, change notices, or modification bulletins.

You'll work across different manufacturers' Fire & Life Safety equipment too ; SimplexGrinnell included. That means reading blueprints, diagrams, submittals, schematics, and product manuals like it's second nature. And yeah, you'll document everything: complete Service Acknowledgements using your smartphone or laptop. Get the customer's signature before you leave.

This role also includes being on a scheduled On call rotation. And if you've got some experience under your belt, you could be training or mentoring others on the team.

How you'll do it

• Troubleshoot and repair installed systems ; panel repairs and reprogramming, device replacements and repairs, resolving low voltage circuit troubles
• System testing to make sure everything works as designed
• Organize technical resources (information, materials, support) so each job gets done efficiently
• Program fire alarm panels along with security and access control system panels
• CCTV and IP/IT network experience? That helps but isn't required
• Submit all required task related documentation on time ; activity reports, productivity tracking anything else they need
• Be available for after hours work when a customer has an urgent need
• Recommend solutions to keep facilities running efficiently; that includes identifying upsell opportunities where they make sense
• Write quotes to go along with those recommendations

The pay range (hourly)

$23.08 to $31.73 per hour. Your actual rate depends on education level how many years' experience you bring where internal equity stands right now plus market data for Columbus, OH.
