Pharmacy Technician Trainee at Giant Eagle

This is an entry level role where you start learning the ins and outs of a busy pharmacy. You're paired with a team that cares about building real relationships with patients, not just processing orders. The goal here is safe, accurate care that keeps people coming back.

You don't need experience for this job ; we're looking for someone ready to train and grow. If you're at least 18 years old, have a high school diploma or equivalent, and can get registered as a pharmacy technician with your state board, you're qualified. You should also be able to lift up to 25 pounds comfortably.

What you'll do day to day

• Greet every patient with compassion and a smile at any pharmacy entry point ; walk up, drive thru, phone.
• Process orders in person and over the phone; direct patients to products and refer prescription or OTC questions to the pharmacist.
• Keep your workspace neat and clean so it meets both company standards and government regulations.
• Jump in wherever the team needs help so the department runs smoothly.
• Use the pharmacy computer for everything: searching patient profiles, checking fill dates, confirming pick up times, reviewing Central Fill prescriptions, quoting cash prices, checking on hand counts of medications, entering invoices.
• Help the team hit their action plan goals by staying on top of service metrics and business targets.
• Support company initiatives and programs as they roll out.
• Complete required training courses and pass any accompanying exams.
• Follow all state and federal laws around HIPAA privacy rules and Pseudoephedrine sales restrictions.
• Ring up sales using the cash register exactly per policy ; especially point of sale procedures.
• Transcribe prescription data accurately so each label is correct for that customer's order.
• Maintain inventory levels by ordering drugs and supplies, receiving shipments properly, stocking shelves correctly, rotating stock by expiration dates ; all per policy.
• Answer phones politely and efficiently; make sure every caller gets accurate information before hanging up happy.
• Troubleshoot customer questions or concerns yourself first; loop in management or support staff only if needed to resolve things quickly.
• File written prescriptions each day without fail so nothing gets lost or delayed.

A note for Long Term Care roles

(If this position supports Long Term Care facilities) You may be asked to perform medication cycle exchanges on site at whatever facility we serve. You might also handle medication cart audits there too. Both tasks happen off site from our main pharmacy location but are part of keeping residents safe every single shift cycle. These tasks aren't daily everywhere; but if our location includes LTC clients they likely apply here too - talk with your hiring manager during interviews specifically about whether Columbus, OH has these duties active currently before starting work though being ready either way won't hurt preparation efforts now either frankly speaking honestly again regarding realities thereof indeed unquestionably yes absolutely positive definite scenario implications possible potential anyway totally transparent statement here just covering all bases fairly enough okay moving onward next section read below . . .

The pay range

The hiring range starts at $16.00 per hour on the low end; goes up depending on experience level when hired obviously other factors too like education history general geographic cost adjustments etcetera.
