About This Role
Alright, let's talk about this PACU RN job in Columbus, OH. I've been placing nurses here for over a decade, and this is the real deal from OhioHealth. It's not just a list of duties; it's about guiding patients through a critical phase of care. Here’s exactly what they need.
The Schedule & The Role
This is a full time day shift position. Your scheduled hours are 5:30 AM to 4:00 PM. You'll be working 40 hours a week. The department runs 24/7, so there are on call requirements you must commit to as part of the role.
You're providing professional nursing care in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit. Think assessment, planning, intervention, evaluation; the full nursing process for patients and their families. You'll delegate tasks to LPNs and unlicensed personnel per the Ohio Nurse Practice Act. And you're part of a team focused on safety, quality, and efficiency every single day.
A Breakdown of What You'll Do
- Conduct initial and ongoing patient assessments; that’s a core part of the daily work.
- Based on your nursing diagnoses, you document the planned interventions to meet patient goals.
- Your day involves implementing care and evaluating how patients respond to it, then adjusting plans with the multidisciplinary team.
- There’s an expectation to get involved in process improvement projects. They’re targeting better clinical quality, patient satisfaction, and financial performance.
- The overall responsibilities require a constant focus on safety and quality; it's how they operate as a High Reliability Organization.
What You Absolutely Need to Have
Let's be clear about the non negotiables. They aren't suggestions.
- A current Registered Nurse license from the State of Ohio, or a current multi state compact license in good standing.
- Your BLS (Basic Life Support) certification from the American Heart Association.
- An Associate's Degree in Nursing is the minimum to start.
- You need ACLS certification.
- At least two years of med surg experience is required.
- You must be able to commit to those on call requirements we talked about.
The Long Term Expectation
Here’s an important note: if you come in with an Associate's degree, you're required to obtain your BSN within five years of employment. They're serious about that lifelong learning piece.
A Quick Note from Me
This isn't just another job posting. It's for someone who sees nursing as more than tasks; it's about being that expert guide for people when they're vulnerable. If your passion really is working in a caring environment and striving for excellence, this could be your spot among some of the best in healthcare.
