About This Role
The Role
This position is about running a Nuclear Medicine department the right way. You'll operate imaging devices, computers, ECG units, lab equipment, dose calibrators, and radiation survey instruments. It's hands on technical work with a clear focus on patient care.
What You'll Do
- Perform scintigraphic scans as prescribed by a physician. That's the bulk of the work - about half your time.
- Handle image manipulation and quantitative studies. You'll archive patient studies on the computer and manage quality control studies too.
- Receive, store, and prepare radioactive and non radioactive materials for patient doses. You need to make sure the right doses are ready when they're needed.
- Run quality control and maintenance procedures for all scanning equipment. Keep up with quality control and wipe survey statistics. Everything has to perform properly to get quality images.
- Consult with physicians directly. Show images and computer studies to the radiologist or cardiologist. They need good data to make interpretations.
- Administer diagnostic or therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals and pharmaceuticals through various routes, under a physician's direction. This stays within your scope of practice.
- Stay sensitive to each patient's physical and emotional needs. That means good communication, patient education, assessment, monitoring, and overall care. You'll assist the physician with intricate imaging procedures when needed.
What You Need
- An Associate's Degree is required.
- You must be a graduate of an approved training program in Nuclear Medicine Technology.
- Certification matters here. You need registration with the NMTCB as a CNMT, or with the ARRT in Nuclear Medicine Technology.
- An ODH Radiologic License as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist.
- BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
- Familiarity with every aspect of a fully equipped Nuclear Medicine department.
- Extensive knowledge of handling and administering radioactive materials, plus nuclear instrumentation and its use.
- This role requires an experienced technologist with the skills to work in a full service Nuclear Medicine department.
