About This Role

The Gig

This is a Senior Industrial Engineer role with Abbott, specifically within Abbott Nutrition. You're not just running numbers; you're the person who makes sure the plant's production data tells a true story. You'll work in the Operational Excellence department, helping the plant move toward Shingo certification and keeping things running smoothly. You'll be looking at line speeds, material loss rates, throughput, headcount, capacity, and downtime. And you'll help drive a culture that's all about creating value, focusing on the process, and trusting the data.

What You'll Actually Do

  • Keep tabs on and report out metrics for every production area in the plant.
  • Build and maintain the annual OEE numbers, plus track plant distress and scrap.
  • Support the site's Operational Excellence efforts, including the Manufacturing Operating System (MOS).
  • Watch operations, analyze what's happening, and recommend ways to improve business processes.
  • Coach and mentor Green Belt teams on how to actually use Lean Six Sigma tools the right way.
  • Help set up project charters and Kaizen events with both internal and external customers.
  • Tackle problems using PDCA, A3 problem solving, and Why Why analysis, even when the problems are complicated by conflicting design requirements or processes that don't cooperate.
  • Support Capital and CIP projects that affect material loss, labor changes, or throughput.
  • Run the employee idea program.
  • Make sure the quality system stays effective.
  • Handle whatever other plant support pops up.

What You're Accountable For

The accuracy of plant performance metrics and labor/material standards sits with you. You're also accountable for managing the change that comes with key site initiatives. It's a role where precision and follow through matter.

What You'll Need to Bring

  • A Bachelor's degree in Engineering, or equivalent technical experience plus proven competence to understand how a plant works.
  • At least 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Genuinely good communication, leadership, problem solving, and teamwork skills. You need to be someone people can work with.
  • Experience with operational analytics tools like SEEQ is a big plus.
  • A Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt is preferred, since you'll be coaching Green Belt teams.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office apps, especially Power BI.
  • High technical expertise and familiarity with infant formula or fast moving consumer goods manufacturing processes is really desired.

Compensation & Benefits

The base pay for this position is $78,000 to $156,000. In some specific locations, the range might be different.

Beyond the paycheck, Abbott offers some solid benefits. You can qualify for free medical coverage through their Health Investment Plan (HIP) PPO medical plan in the next calendar year. There's an excellent retirement savings plan with a high employer contribution. They also offer tuition reimbursement, a Freedom 2 Save student debt program, and the FreeU education benefit, which is an affordable way to get a bachelor's degree. It's a company that's been named one of the best big companies to work for, and it's recognized for diversity, working mothers, female executives, and scientists.
