Float Pool RN

OhioHealth·Columbus, OH

About This Role

Alright, let's talk about this Float Pool RN role in Columbus, OH. It's a different kind of nursing job. You're not on one unit; you're the go to person who moves where the need is greatest across acute care settings. The department runs 24/7, 365 days a year, so you'll see it all.

What You'll Be Doing

You're the registered nurse accountable for professional practice as defined by the Ohio Board of Nursing. That means you own the nursing process from start to finish for your patients.

  • You perform initial and ongoing assessments to understand each patient's health status.
  • Based on your assessment and identified problems, you develop and document a plan of care with specific goals.
  • Then you put that plan into action and evaluate how it's working, adjusting as needed.
  • A big part of the job is delegating tasks appropriately to LPNs and unlicensed staff, following the Ohio Nurse Practice Act.
  • And because we operate as a High Reliability Organization, everything you do has a focus on safety, quality, and efficiency. You'll be involved in process improvement work too, looking at clinical quality, patient satisfaction, and financial performance.

What You Need to Have

The non negotiables are pretty clear. We need someone who can start contributing from day one.

  • A current Registered Nurse license from the State of Ohio is mandatory. If you have a multi state compact license in good standing, that works too.
  • You must have your BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
  • For education, an Associate's Degree in Nursing is the minimum requirement to get started.
  • Here's an important one: if you come in with an Associate's degree, you'll need to earn your BSN within five years of employment. It's a requirement for continued work here past that point.

The Schedule & Details

This is an "As Needed" position scheduled for Day shifts. The weekly hours vary based on what's needed; that's the nature of float pool work. You'll be part of the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) department's resource pool.
