About This Role
Alright, let's talk about this ER RN job in Columbus, OH. I've been placing nurses for over a decade, and I can tell you this is the real deal. It's not just a job posting; it's the actual blueprint for the role from OhioHealth. The schedule, the requirements, the specifics; it's all here. No fluff.
The Work
You're providing nursing care across the continuum in acute settings. The department runs 24/7/365, so you'll be part of that always on team.
Your practice is defined by the Ohio Board of Nursing. You'll delegate tasks to LPNs and UAPs based on the Ohio Nurse Practice Act. Following department policies, you're responsible for the whole cycle: assessing patients, planning their care, implementing it, and evaluating how it goes.
- Spend about 30% of your time on assessment and diagnosis. That's initial, ongoing, and functional health status checks.
- Another 30% goes to outcomes identification and planning. You document planned interventions based on nursing diagnoses and collaborative problems.
- About 20% is implementation and evaluation. You check how patients respond to interventions and if outcomes are met, revising plans with the multidisciplinary team as needed.
- The remaining time involves leadership activities like process improvement to hit targets for clinical quality, satisfaction, and financial performance.
And because this is a High Reliability Organization (HRO), everything you do needs a focus on safety, quality, and efficiency. That's non negotiable.
What You Need to Have
The qualifications are specific. They aren't suggestions.
- A current Registered Nurse license from the State of Ohio and/or a current RN license in good standing from a multi state compact state.
- A BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
- Here’s a big one: a BSN degree is required within five years of your start date if you don't already have it.
The Schedule & Details
This is for night shift. You're scheduled for 36 hours weekly in the Emergency Department.
