About This Role
This Job Sits in Global Procurement for Abbott Nutrition
Abbott is a healthcare company that covers a lot of ground ; diagnostics, medical devices, nutritionals, and generic medicines. About 115,000 people work here across more than 160 countries. This particular role is on the Global Procurement team, supporting the Abbott Nutrition (AN) Packaging category. You'd report to the Senior Category Manager of Packaging, and your office would be in Columbus, OH.
What You'd Actually Be Doing
You'd be the primary point of contact for all division category needs, managing a spend of roughly $100 million. That means you'd own the relationships with stakeholders, help them figure out what they really need, and deliver sourcing and procurement services that actually meet those expectations. You'd also translate the broader business vision into a category strategy with a real execution plan.
Here's what the day to day looks like:
- Negotiate and manage all contractual obligations for the category, hitting deadlines
- Find continuous improvement opportunities ; things like design for sourcing, innovation, process mapping, cost efficiencies
- Develop and leverage supplier capabilities to meet business needs
- Keep an eye on market dynamics, supplier competition, standards, and pricing strategies for the category
- Balance value, business continuity, and cost savings without sacrificing quality or stakeholder relationships
- Own and implement the agreed upon purchasing strategies
- Drive Total Cost of Ownership reductions through solid analytics
- Measure and track category performance, pushing for best in class results
- Work with procurement staff on cross divisional initiatives that involve AN manufacturing sites
- Mentor, train, and develop talent as a leader within procurement
What You Need to Bring
This isn't an entry level spot. You should have at least 5 years in procurement and supply chain management, ideally with engineering or technical category experience. A bachelor's degree in Packaging paired with supply chain experience works. Or a technical engineering degree with relevant procurement background. A master's degree is preferred, and a certification like CPSM, CPM, or PMP is a nice plus.
Other requirements:
- Strong project management skills ; you need to build actionable plans, not just talk about them
- Solid written and verbal communication
- Some experience leading teams
- Relevant business process knowledge for procurement and category management
- Interdisciplinary and intercultural skills; you'll work with people from all over
- Influence and negotiating skills that get results
- Contracting experience
- Supplier management know how
- Some knowledge of regional markets and international experience would be helpful
