About This Role
Sonographer - Maternal Fetal Medicine
This is a PRN sonographer role at our Colorado Springs, CO hospital. You'd be working in the Maternal Fetal Medicine department, which is where your specific experience would really come into play.
The schedule is days, and it's a PRN position with 0.00 hours per two week pay period. That means you're on call to cover shifts as needed.
What You'll Do
You'll perform sonography exams, from start to finish. That includes reviewing patient history and doctor's orders, and sometimes handling the scheduling for those exams.
- You explain the procedure and equipment to patients so they know what to expect.
- If it's ordered, you prepare and give contrast media or medications within your scope of practice.
- Keeping an eye on the patient's condition is part of the job; you report any changes right away.
- A lot of your day involves prepping equipment, selecting the right imaging settings, and running quality control checks.
- When equipment acts up, you troubleshoot it or report the problem so it gets fixed.
- Positioning patients correctly and performing the imaging procedure is your core task. You analyze the images as you go, too. If something isn't clear, you take action; that might mean repositioning the patient and repeating part of the scan.
- Afterward, you enter and transmit the results so the care team has them.
- There's a chance you'd work with radiology students from time to time.
This job requires solid critical thinking skills and good judgement. You'll work with minimal supervision in an environment where things move quickly, so being able to assess a situation and act is important.
The Specifics We Need
- A graduate from an accredited Ultrasound Technologist or Diagnostic Medical Sonographer program.
- You must be registered as an RDMS (Diagnostic Medical Sonographer), RVT (Vascular Technologist), or RDCS (Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer) by ARDMS. Alternatively, certification in Sonography (S) by ARRT works too.
- A state license is required if our state law demands it for this role.
- A Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Healthcare Providers is mandatory before you start. It needs to be from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer program. The card must be valid for at least sixty days after your hire date.
The Experience That Fits Best
The minimum requirement for experience? There isn't one; new grads are welcome if they have the right credentials. But here's the thing: experience in Maternal Fetal Medicine is strongly preferred. Given that this role sits within that specific department, having that background would make a big difference in how quickly you feel at home here.
