About This Role

Alright, let's talk about this job. It's for a Production Worker at the hospital's Central Utilities Plant in Colorado Springs, CO. You're basically the person who keeps the lights on and the heat running. The schedule is full time, which works out to 80 hours every two weeks, on day shifts.

What you'd be doing

You'll run and maintain everything in the hospital's power plant to keep it safe and reliable. That means you're watching over a lot of critical equipment.

  • Operating and maintaining boilers. You'll monitor all their meters and gauges, start them up, shut them down, or switch them over as needed.
  • Keeping detailed logs of gas and fuel oil levels and reporting any major repairs or unsafe conditions you spot.
  • Following preventative maintenance schedules for all boiler room equipment.
  • Getting boilers ready for state and insurance inspections.
  • The same goes for emergency generators; you'll operate them, log diesel fuel levels, and report on their status.
  • You'll also handle the chillers that provide cooling. Monitoring their operation, starting and stopping them, logging data, and performing scheduled maintenance are all part of it.
  • Monitoring cooling tower operation is included too.
  • You'll keep an eye on the natural gas and liquid oxygen tanks along with their associated alarm panels.

This isn't a job where someone tells you what to do every minute. It requires solid critical thinking skills, good judgement, and the ability to work without constant supervision. Things can move quickly sometimes, so you've got to be ready to take appropriate action when needed.

The background we need

A few specific things are required before you can step into this role. Here’s what you must have:

  • A high school diploma or GED is the minimum education requirement.
  • You need four years of experience working as a Stationary Engineer or Power Plant Operator specifically.
  • Within that experience, three years must involve operating high pressure boilers.
  • You also need three years of experience working as a water operator.
  • A Stationary Engineer Certification from your local City and County is mandatory.
  • A Universal EPA Certification is required too.
