About This Role
Alright, let's talk about this phlebotomist job in Colorado Springs, CO. I've been placing lab folks for over a decade, and I can tell you this is a solid setup. It's part time at the Cherry Creek Medical Center, but the hours are consistent; 40 hours every two weeks, on day shifts. The pay starts between $19.10 and $24.83 an hour, and where you land in that range depends entirely on your experience.
What You'd Be Doing
The core of the job is collecting blood samples. You'll use techniques that are right for the patient's age, then label, process, and get those specimens ready for testing. Keeping your supplies and equipment in order is part of it too.
But here’s the thing about hospital labs: you often get to do more. Depending on where they need help, you could be handling clerical work or patient registration. You might process other lab samples, manage send out tests, or run point of care checks. Some folks assist with EKGs, pacemaker checks, or even in pathology or bone marrow procedures. There's also work in apheresis or therapeutic phlebotomy.
You're not micromanaged here. They need someone who can think on their feet, make good decisions independently, and keep up in a busy setting.
What You Need to Bring
- A high school diploma or GED is mandatory.
- You must have finished a phlebotomy program from an accredited school.
- Your Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Healthcare Providers needs to be current and active from day one.

- Time Off & Protection: Paid time off (PTO) and paid family/medical leave are included. The company provides basic life insurance and short/long term disability coverage, with options to buy more.
- Retirement & Savings: They offer a 403(b) plan with an employer match. A 457(b) plan might be available too. You can use flexible spending accounts or a health savings account if you choose the high deductible medical plan.
- Growth: This is a big one for UCHealth. They provide serious support for education; up to 100% of tuition, books, and fees paid for certain degrees. Other programs might qualify for up to $10k per year prepaid or $5,250 in reimbursement. You get access to LinkedIn Learning and internal development courses. They even offer free help navigating federal student loan forgiveness programs.
A quick note: eligibility for some of these programs depends on your scheduled work hours.
