About This Role
Alright, let's talk about this job. It's not a remote gig; you'll be onsite at UCHealth Memorial Hospital Central in Colorado Springs, CO. The schedule is full time, which works out to 80 hours every two weeks on the day shift.
The pay range is $41.43 to $62.15 an hour. Where you land in that depends on your experience.
What you'd be doing
You're the person keeping an eye on things so everyone stays safe and we meet all the rules. You'll monitor our safety, life safety, and hazardous materials programs. A big part of that is doing regular inspections, looking into any incidents that happen, and running fire drills.
- Coordinate industrial hygiene surveys and environmental monitoring.
- Keep our environmental permits and occupational exposure records up to date.
- You'll handle OSHA record keeping and be the point person if regulators come for an inspection or audit.
- Review reports from environmental audits.
- Help with internal emergency response training for staff.
- Put together agenda items and reports for the safety committee meetings.
- The role also involves some general support work like helping with purchasing, reviewing contracts, managing records, and handling databases.
This isn't a hand holding position. You need to think critically, use good judgment, and manage your own workload in a busy hospital environment where things can change quickly.
What you need to bring
- A Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health or Safety is required.
- You need three years of experience working in Environmental Health and Safety.
- A BLS certification from the American Heart Association or CPR for the Professional Rescuer from the American Red Cross is mandatory. You have to have the physical card in hand before your first day, and it needs to be valid for at least sixty days after you're hired.
A few things would make you stand out: a professional certification (like OSHA 40 hour Hazardous Waste Operations or something from NFPA), or experience in a healthcare setting where you worked with Joint Commission Environment of Care standards. That's a big plus here.
The deal beyond the paycheck
The benefits are pretty comprehensive. They call it their total rewards program; it's more than just health insurance.
