Associate Attorney – Public Agency Litigation
Our law firm is looking for an experienced Associate Attorney to handle public agency litigation. This isn't your typical desk job; you'll be in court, at client meetings, and working remotely too. It's a hybrid role with 1,850 billable hours per year.
What you'll do
- Represent public agencies in state and federal courts, plus before administrative bodies
- Tackle complex litigation involving construction defects, environmental issues, and the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA)
- Advise public agencies on land use, contracting, employment law, and regulatory compliance
- Draft pleadings, briefs, contracts ; all the legal documents that keep cases moving
- Dig into legal research and write memoranda that support your arguments
- Negotiate settlements for public agency clients when that's the smart path forward
- Show up for client meetings, court hearings, depositions ; whatever the case demands
What you need to bring
- A Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school ; no exceptions there
- Active membership in the state bar and good standing (this one's non negotiable)
- At least 5 years of experience in public agency litigation, municipal law, CEQA work, construction defect or construction litigation cases ; ideally a mix of these areas
- A track record of handling complex litigation on behalf of public agencies effectively
- The ability to write clearly and speak persuasively ; clients count on this every day
- Strong analytical skills that let you break down tough problems logically and quickly
- The self discipline to work independently but the judgment to collaborate when needed
