Medical Lab Technician

About This Role

Hey there. I've been placing lab techs for over a decade, and I know this isn't just about running tests. It's about being the person behind the data that doctors rely on. Fusion Medical Staffing has a 16 week travel assignment in Cleveland, OH for an MLT Generalist. If you're the type who finds satisfaction in precision and process, let's talk.

The Work

You'll be doing routine and more complex diagnostic testing across several areas: chemistry, hematology, microbiology, immunology, and toxicology. A big part of the job is making sure those results are accurate and reliable.

  • Prepare and process specimens, with careful attention to labeling.
  • Operate and maintain the lab instruments; you'll troubleshoot basic issues and know when to escalate them.
  • Your day involves following strict protocols from groups like AABB, CAP, FDA, and CLIA.
  • You'll communicate test results clearly to other healthcare staff.
  • There's record keeping for tests, calibrations, and quality control.
  • You’ll help with inventory, prepping reagents, and stocking supplies.
  • The role includes supporting transfusion reaction investigations by collecting samples.
  • And of course, adhering to all safety and infection control guidelines is non negotiable.

What You Need to Bring

They need someone with at least one year of recent experience working as a Medical Laboratory Technician. A valid state license is required if the regulations call for it.

  • A national certification is preferred; think ASCP, AMT, AAB, or HEW.
  • You must have a current BLS certification from the AHA or ARC.
  • The ability to read, write, and communicate in English is required.

The Physical & Mental Side

This isn't a desk job where you sit still all day. Be ready to move around the lab, handle equipment weighing between 50 100 lbs., bend, push, and pull. You need fine motor skills for manipulations. Visually, your acuity matters here. Mentally, you're dealing with details under pressure, working both independently and under supervision at times. You're interacting with a mix of people all shift long; a professional attitude goes a long way.

The Package (This Part Matters)

Fusion structures their benefits for travelers who are serious about their career. The pay is highly competitive for travel professionals.

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance start on your very first day.
  • You qualify for Paid Time Off after you work 1560 hours.
  • They offer life insurance and short term disability coverage.
  • There's a 401(k) plan with a company match.
  • The Refer a-friend bonus program is aggressive; if you know good people, it pays well.
  • You get reimbursed for your state licensure and CEU costs.
  • A recruiter is available for support 24/7 throughout your assignment.
