Fire Sprinkler Technician

University of CincinnatiยทCincinnati, OH

About This Role

The Role

This is a hands on fire sprinkler technician position at the University of Cincinnati in Cincinnati, OH. You'll take ownership of campus fire alarm systems - installing, monitoring, maintaining, repairing, and testing them. It's a role that keeps buildings and people safe.

You're designated as essential personnel. That means you work nights, weekends, holidays, and during campus closures when emergencies happen.

What You'll Do

  • Install, repair, replace, service, and test fire system components following codes and policies
  • Troubleshoot problems with equipment; fix component level issues or fabricate replacement parts as needed
  • Keep an eye on the fire alarm systems across campus; make repairs yourself or pass the problem along to someone else
  • Inspect equipment regularly and handle preventive maintenance; write down everything you do for documentation
  • Track what's in stock for parts and order more when inventory gets low
  • Act as the emergency responder liaison during off hours and when the campus closes unexpectedly
  • The work schedule shifts: you'll work 10 hour days, 4 days per week. But those hours rotate between day shifts starting around 0630 and night shifts going until 0200.
  • You might get called back in or put on call outside your normal shift. Overtime is part of it too - weekdays, evenings, nights, weekends.
  • Large events like graduation ceremonies or athletic games could mean you're working extra

What You Need to Qualify

  • A vocational or technical degree in electrical technology or something related. If you don't have that degree but have two years of relevant experience plus specialized training instead ; that works.
  • At least two years of hands on experience maintaining and repairing fire alarm systems isn't just preferred; it's required
  • A valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving record ; current and clean
  • An Ohio Fire License ; but if you don't have it yet? They give you one year from your start date to get it
