Solutions Architect

What you'll be doing

This is a platform architecture role at Allstate, but it's not a paper only gig. You'll design and evolve scalable, reliable platform architectures that support multiple engineering teams. You'll drive architecture and design specifically for customer service and communication platforms.

You'll act as a technical authority on design decisions, tradeoffs, and integration patterns. That means reviewing and influencing APIs, system designs, and event driven integrations. You'll provide technical guidance, enablement, and advisory support to teams across the org.

Here's the thing: you'll still write code. About 5 to 10 percent of your time will be spent validating designs or unblocking teams. You'll partner with security, operations, and application teams to make sure everything is production ready. You'll mentor senior engineers and influence direction without having direct authority. You'll align technical solutions with business and technology roadmaps, evaluate emerging technologies, and apply industry standards.

You'll build trust with engineering directors, principal engineers, and design leaders to shape backlogs and engineering practices. You'll question assumptions, consider downstream implications of technical decisions, and share relevant insights with the broader engineering community.

What you need

• 10 or more years of experience in software engineering, architecture, or platform roles
• Experience designing and supporting enterprise scale distributed systems
• Strong hands on experience with Java and/or JavaScript
• Experience with API design and service based architectures
• Experience operating applications in cloud environments ; AWS is preferred
• The ability to guide teams through architectural tradeoffs
• Experience working in regulated or risk aware enterprise environments

What would be nice to have

• Front end experience, like with React
• Event driven or integration heavy system experience
• Exposure to customer communication platforms ; chat, SMS, voice
• Experience influencing strategy in matrixed organizations

The kind of person we're after

We're looking for a senior software engineer who grew into architecture and influence. Someone who enjoys enabling teams, can clearly explain the reasoning behind technical decisions, and stays comfortable engaging with code when needed. This is a hands on technical authority role, not a pure paper architect position.

Compensation

Compensation offered for this role is $160,200.00 to $227,550.00 annually, based on experience and qualifications.

This role does not have supervisory duties. The candidate offered this position will be required to submit to a background investigation.
