US Foods, Inc.·Chicago, IL

About This Role

Alright, let's talk about this HR Manager spot in Chicago, IL. This isn't about running payroll from a back office. You're the go to person on the ground, making sure things run right for people and helping leaders do their jobs better. If you like solving real problems and seeing your work impact the day to day, you should keep reading.

What you'll be doing

Your main focus is building a genuine culture where people feel safe and supported. That means being a visible leader who makes safety a non negotiable priority every single day. You'll challenge other leaders to do the same and hold them accountable for their teams' engagement.

  • Be the advocate for a positive employee experience. You need to spot issues that hurt that experience and get them in front of the right people to fix them.
  • Use data and insights to find opportunities for improvement, especially around employee sentiment, and make solid recommendations.
  • Act as a thought partner in identifying gaps in how associates experience their work, helping prioritize actions and plan for things like labor negotiations.
  • Advise supervisors and managers on company policies to ensure they're applied consistently and correctly across different departments.
  • Facilitate training sessions when needed, like new hire orientation or leader development workshops.
  • Support communication efforts for big HR and business changes, driving adoption and helping leaders create the right environment for those shifts to stick.
  • Lead internal investigations with support from your Area Director of HR, partnering with Compliance when needed. You'll summarize findings and provide recommendations.
  • Support recruitment, help shape staffing strategies, manage onboarding, and guide Performance Improvement Plans (PIPs) and Individual Development Plans (IDPs).
  • Review and coach leaders on disciplinary actions and performance management for hourly staff.
  • Provide coaching to Area leaders on talent assessment, planning processes, and identifying talent for development programs.
  • Administer leave programs for the market and guide leaders through the interactive accommodation process in line with ADA regulations. You'll also support the Workers' Compensation program.
  • Collaborate with market leaders to ensure our HR practices actually support business goals.
  • Stay current on US Foods procedures, employment laws, and regulations to maintain compliance.
  • Keep all necessary documentation up to date: staffing activities, recruitment efforts, training records, grievances, Affirmative Action Plans with good faith outreach logs, and disciplinary actions. Maintaining personnel files is part of this.

This is an onsite role based out of a US Foods office. But you won't be stuck at a desk. There's a significant amount of interaction with associates in other locations; think distribution centers, driver yards; and you might occasionally ride along on customer visits with sales managers.

You'll work closely with front line leaders, managers, and directors across Finance, Supply Chain, Sales, and HR. You'll interact with associates at every level. Externally, you'll connect with job candidates outside agencies sometimes customers too
