Job Overview
This Emergency Room RN position is based in Chicago, IL. You'll be at the front line of medical care, making rapid assessments and critical interventions for patients with everything from minor injuries to life threatening conditions. It's a role where your clinical judgment directly shapes patient outcomes from the moment they arrive.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Triage incoming patients, prioritizing care based on acuity and available resources.
- Manage complex cases, including trauma, cardiac events, and severe infections, often with limited patient history.
- Administer medications, start IVs, draw labs, and assist with procedures like intubations or wound closures.
- Provide clear, compassionate communication to patients and their families during high stress situations.
- Document all care meticulously in the electronic health record under tight time constraints.
- Collaborate seamlessly with physicians, techs, and other nurses to ensure a cohesive treatment plan.
Requirements
- A current, unencumbered RN license valid in the state for Chicago, IL.
- BLS and ACLS certifications are mandatory; PALS or TNCC is a major plus.
- At least one year of recent ER nursing experience is strongly preferred. New grad programs aren't available for this opening.
- The ability to stay focused and make sound decisions amid constant noise and frequent interruptions.
- You'll need physical stamina for 12 hour shifts; lots of standing, walking, and occasionally lifting or repositioning patients.
